Shelly Joyner
Legal
Shelly Joyner grew up in the DFW area where her parents were professional musicians and music educators. Shelly's dad, Dr. David Joyner, was a University of North Texas jazz history professor and the founder of UNT's Jazz Repertory Ensemble. Her mother, Kathy Theil Hendricks, was a clarinetist with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Wind Symphony. Shelly counts herself very lucky to have literally grown up listening to some of the best jazz on the planet on a weekly basis at UNT, tagging along with her dad.
She worked for 17 years at an international shipping company as a specialty account operations manager until she decided to follow her passion for helping others in the legal field. She graduated from UNT Dallas College of Law in 2019. She is now a Senior Attorney at Crain & Wooley, a boutique law firm handling estate planning and probate in DFW. She lectures on law and legal issues and serves as a judge for various moot court and mock trail competitions from high school to law school level students. She's also a proud member of Attorneys Serving the Community.
Shelly is excited to combine her love of classic jazz, her operations management experience, and her legal knowledge to help Lone Star Jazz achieve its goals of being caretakers of the culture through educational outreach, performance, and advocacy. She finds it serendipitous that she's able to do so with her dad's former students.
